Marian Catholic boys volleyball is entering a new season under the leadership of head coach Walter Witt, who is embracing the challenge of building a competitive team from scratch.
Witt, previously the assistant head coach, is motivated by the high-level competition within the Marian Catholic league. According to Witt, "The competition keeps me engaged, but more importantly, I love seeing these players grow and develop."
This season marks a fresh start for the team, with only two players returning from last year's squad. Witt expressed excitement about a strong group of freshmen joining varsity. "It’s a great opportunity for these younger players to step up and compete at a high level," he said.
Leading the team will be seniors Ricky Gallegos and Prince Trimuel, who are assuming key leadership roles. Witt praised their dedication and work ethic, highlighting Trimuel as an exceptional competitor due to his multi-talented background in athletics and music.
Despite losing many experienced players from last season, Witt views this as an opportunity to rebuild and establish a solid foundation. "That was the most attractive thing about this job—getting to build something new," he said. "This season is all about seeing how these new players rise to the challenge."
Team chemistry will be crucial, and Witt is confident in the bond forming within the group. He said, "They’re competitive, but they also care for one another. That mix of intensity and camaraderie will help them grow together as a unit."
