Spartan boys’ tennis season is approaching, and head coach Scott Bodnar is preparing for another year of competition, development, and team bonding. With over 20 years at the helm of the program, his dedication to fostering growth, teamwork, and a passion for the sport remains steadfast.
Bodnar’s affinity for tennis began in high school and continued when he joined Marian Catholic in 1991. Coaching became a natural extension of that passion. “I’ve been coaching for over 20 years now,” Bodnar said. “It’s been a great journey, and I’ve truly enjoyed watching players grow and develop not only as athletes but as people.”
Looking ahead, Bodnar expressed particular enthusiasm about working with his senior players who have committed years to the program. “It’s all about the kids, and the seniors are especially important,” he said. “They’ve put in the time, and I’m excited to see them leave a legacy for the younger players.”
With several seniors graduating, younger players will have opportunities to assume key roles. According to Bodnar, RJ Macasaet is a leader to watch. “RJ has been with the program for four years and developed into a crucial player,” he said. A new player will also take over the No. 1 singles position, presenting significant opportunities for growth and leadership.
Beyond skill development, Bodnar emphasizes valuable life lessons. “Half of life is showing up, and the other half is performing your best,” he said. To enhance team chemistry, he plans bonding activities such as team dinners to create a close-knit environment on and off the court.
With experienced leaders and emerging talent, the Spartan tennis team is prepared to embrace the challenges of a new season under Bodnar’s guidance.
