Delan Davis scored two of his game-high 27 points in a low-scoring overtime on November 25, leading Marian Catholic to a narrow 70-69 victory over Hammond Central in the opening round of the Aurelio’s Pizza Chicago Heights Classic.
According to the game statistics, Zack Sharkey contributed 19 points, including three three-pointers, and Landon Mays added 11 for the Spartans (1-0). Tyler Jolly also scored eight points, while Cardan Gordon contributed three during the extra period.
Marian outscored Hammond 3-2 in overtime to secure the win after both teams were tied at 67 at the end of regulation. Hammond Central (0-1) was led by Tyron Browder with 25 points and James Dotson with seven.
Both teams made an equal number of field goals, totaling 25 each. Marian shot 15 of 19 from the free-throw line, achieving a percentage of 78.9%, while Hammond converted 14 of their 18 attempts, resulting in a percentage of 77.8%. Each team made five three-pointers; Browder accounted for two for Hammond, while Sharkey made three for Marian.
