Zack Sharkey led Marian Catholic to victory with a game-high 28 points, as the team defeated Belleville West 68-56 in a nonconference matchup on Saturday.
According to the report, the win marked a strong start to the Spartans’ holiday road trip, improving their record to 16-6. Sharkey’s offensive performance enabled Marian Catholic to maintain a scoring advantage throughout each quarter.
Delan Davis contributed 13 points, while Terrell Morton added 10 points. Jordan Walker came off the bench to score eight points for the Spartans. Marian Catholic shot 27-of-53 from the field, including three three-pointers, and made 11 of 14 free throws for a .786 percentage. Belleville West connected on 23 field goals, including four three-pointers, but struggled at the free-throw line with only six successful attempts out of twelve (.500).
Marian also held an advantage in fouls, with Belleville West committing 17 fouls compared to the Spartans’ 12. According to reports, Belleville West’s Lowrey fouled out in the second half, further hampering their efforts.
The victory provides Marian Catholic with momentum as they continue their holiday road trip.
