Marian Catholic High School’s cheerleading team has earned a place in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state tournament following their second-place finish in the Medium Division at the IHSA Sectional held on Saturday.
According to the event results, the Spartans competed against 14 other schools at Farmington and achieved a score of 91.53, securing one of the top positions necessary to advance to the state level. This performance places them among Illinois’ leading teams as they prepare for a championship bid next weekend.
The upcoming IHSA state finals are scheduled for February 7-8 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington. The tournament will gather top teams from across the state to vie for the championship title.
Throughout this season, Marian Catholic has been a formidable competitor, and their sectional performance is indicative of their commitment and preparation. Head coach Janelle Stubbs commended the team’s hard work and execution, stating that their objective is to peak at the right time.
Stubbs noted that Marian Catholic will now focus on enhancing their performance for the state competition, aiming for a podium finish.
