Marian Catholic defeats Hyde Park 39-33 in defensive battle

Marian Catholic’s boys basketball team emerged victorious against Hyde Park in a closely contested, low-scoring game, securing a 39-33 win at Malcolm X. The Spartans improved their season record to 12-5, largely due to Zack Sharkey’s game-high contribution of 15 points.

According to the match report, Jordan Walker added eight points and Landon Mays contributed seven, helping Marian Catholic extend a narrow 15-14 halftime lead into a decisive victory. The game was characterized by strong defensive play from both teams, with shooting percentages falling below 40%. However, Marian Catholic gained an advantage at the free-throw line, successfully converting 7 out of 9 attempts (77.8%), while Hyde Park struggled with just 3 out of 12 (25%).

The Spartans also outperformed Hyde Park from beyond the arc, making four three-pointers compared to Hyde Park’s two. Despite the close nature of the contest, Hyde Park was unable to capitalize on its opportunities. Leflore led his team with ten points, including two three-pointers, but overall offensive struggles persisted for the team.

Thomas contributed eight points and Walls added seven for Hyde Park. This victory marks Marian Catholic’s second consecutive win as they continue their strong performance this season.
