Zack Sharkey scored a game-high 18 points as Marian Catholic surged to a 27-2 lead after the first quarter, securing a 65-21 victory over Joliet Catholic Academy on Friday in an East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) matchup.
According to the game statistics, the Spartans (6-1, 2-0) maintained control from the opening tip-off, restricting the Hillmen (3-4, 0-2) to just two points in the first quarter and preventing them from scoring in the final period. Delan Davis contributed 13 points, while Terrell Morton added 10.
Peyton Stoffregen also contributed seven points, with a total of ten different players scoring for Marian. The defense was effective, as the Spartans limited Joliet Catholic to just 21 points and forced several turnovers throughout the game. Marian also dominated in rebounding and controlled the pace from start to finish.
In other games between these schools, Marian’s sophomore team narrowly defeated Joliet Catholic 46-45, while their freshman A team won 52-39. However, the Marian freshman B team was defeated by JCA with a score of 30-27.
