Marian Catholic head coach Dan Murray achieved a significant milestone, securing his 500th career victory as the Spartans triumphed over Joliet Catholic Academy with a score of 46-22 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) matchup.
According to the game details, the Spartans, now holding a record of 21-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play, took control from the second quarter onward. They outscored the Angels 16-2 during that period. Senior guard Taylor Bolton was instrumental for Marian, contributing 13 points and making 9 of 11 free throws. “We wanted to come out strong and take control early,” said Murray. “We played solid defense, and our offense executed well after the first quarter.”
Murray’s team saw contributions from multiple players, including LaParis Poe with 8 points and Ty Jackson adding another 7.
Joliet Catholic struggled offensively throughout the game, scoring only 22 points on a shooting performance of 9-of-37. The Angels were further hampered by their free-throw shooting, converting just one out of nine attempts. Junior guard Morgan Dulinski led Joliet Catholic with five points, while senior guard Jessica Moran added three.
The Spartans’ defense proved formidable, limiting the Angels to five points in the second half and forcing them into committing 17 fouls. Marian also dominated rebounding and made 13 of their 20 free throw attempts compared to Joliet Catholic’s single successful attempt out of nine.
