Marian Catholic falls to Homewood-Flossmoor, 58-45, in Classic Pool Championship

Marian Catholic boys’ basketball team was unable to recover from a slow start, resulting in a 58-45 loss to Homewood-Flossmoor in the pool championship game of the Aurelio’s Pizza Chicago Heights Classic on Wednesday, November 27.

According to reports, the Spartans (2-1) trailed 21-8 after the opening quarter and were unable to mount a comeback. Zack Sharkey scored a game-high 20 points for Marian Catholic. Delan Davis contributed 12 points, including five of six from the free-throw line, while Landon Mays added five points.

Homewood-Flossmoor (3-0) was led by Tyler with 16 points and DeRose with 12. The Vikings also received contributions from Eaves with seven points and Howard with eight. Marian finished the game shooting 14-of-47 from the field, including 5-of-20 from three-point range. In contrast, Homewood-Flossmoor shot 24-of-54 and hit two of ten from beyond the arc.

Both teams demonstrated proficiency at the free-throw line, with Marian converting 12-of-15 (80%) and Homewood-Flossmoor hitting eight of ten (80%).

The Spartans are scheduled to face Hillcrest in the third-place game at 1 p.m. on Friday, while Homewood-Flossmoor will compete against Bloom Township for the Classic title at 3 p.m.
