Marian Catholic girls basketball wins twice at Coal City Shootout

Marian Catholic’s girls basketball team secured the Coal City Shootout title on Saturday with a decisive 50-35 victory over Kankakee.

According to the game report, Taylor Bolton led the Spartans with 18 points, while Ty Jackson contributed 17. LaParis Poe added six points, helping Marian maintain control throughout the game. The Spartans’ strong start was pivotal as they surged to a 15-2 lead in the opening quarter, setting the tone for the remainder of the contest.

The victory improved Marian Catholic’s record to 20-3 for the season. Earlier in the day, they also defeated Coal City with a score of 50-39. Poe scored 15 points in that game, Bolton added 12, and Alexis Poisson contributed 10, aiding Marian’s second win of the day.

In their match against Kankakee, Marian Catholic had field goals totaling 19 compared to Kankakee’s 12. The Spartans excelled at free throws with an accuracy of .889 (8 out of 9), while Kankakee achieved a perfect score with their two attempts. Three-point goals were another area where Marian excelled, scoring four (three by Bolton and one by Poisson) compared to Kankakee’s nine. Fouls were minimal for both teams, with Marian committing five and Kankakee eight.
