Marian Catholic’s softball team displayed determination on Monday but ultimately fell short in a 5-4 defeat against Nazareth Academy during an East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
According to the match details, the Spartans mounted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs to close the gap. Kendyl Rainey led the offensive effort with two doubles and an RBI, while pitcher Jackie Pollock, despite taking the loss, struck out 11 batters and contributed an RBI. Gracie Jensen also added to the team’s performance with a stolen base and a run scored.
Nazareth Academy took an early lead by scoring single runs in each of the first three innings and added two more in the seventh to secure a 5-1 advantage. Marian Catholic was held scoreless through six innings before their late surge, which included a run in the sixth inning and three in the final frame.
The Spartans concluded with four hits and one error, whereas Nazareth Academy recorded seven hits and two errors. Marian Catholic aims to recover in upcoming games as competition within the conference intensifies.
