Marian Catholic’s boys basketball team experienced a setback on Saturday, ending their 10-game winning streak with a 54-47 defeat against Springfield Lanphier during the Danville Shootout. Despite Zack Sharkey scoring a game-high of 26 points, the Spartans were unable to secure a victory.
According to the game’s summary, Marian Catholic fell behind early, being outscored in the first three quarters. A fourth-quarter effort by the team was insufficient to close the gap. Tyler Jolly contributed 11 points and Delan Davis added six, with only four players from Marian accounting for all of the team’s scoring.
Lanphier’s Keyondre Holman led his team with 24 points, including two three-pointers. The Lions set the pace early in the game, securing an 18-13 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 33-27 by halftime.
The Spartans faced challenges from the field, managing only 15 field goals compared to Lanphier’s 20. However, they showed efficiency at the free-throw line by converting 16 of their 19 attempts (84.2%). This performance was not enough to overcome their initial deficit.
