Zack Sharkey led Marian Catholic to a decisive 52-17 victory over Richards on Sunday during the Prairie State College Shootout, scoring a game-high 19 points.
According to the game’s statistics, the Spartans (5-1) broke away from a close contest with a significant 21-0 run in the second quarter. This effort allowed them to outscore the Bulldogs (2-6) by 35 points over the final three periods. Marian’s defense played a crucial role, limiting Richards to just six field goals and forcing 14 turnovers.
Sharkey also contributed three steals and was instrumental in leading the offensive charge. Delan Davis added 11 points, while Kaziem Okonkwo secured a team-high eight rebounds. Jaylen Walters contributed seven points, with Terrell Morton and Shane Lunford each adding six.
The Spartans shot 20 of 47 (42.6%) from the field and successfully made seven three-pointers, with Lunford and Morton each hitting two. In contrast, Richards struggled offensively, shooting only 6 of 34 (17.6%) from the field and just 1 of 10 (10%) from beyond the arc. Marian also dominated in rebounding, out-rebounding Richards 32-27. The team’s strong defense and efficient offense marked their third consecutive win.
