The Marian Catholic wrestling team showcased determination on January 29, 2025, at the Marian Catholic Tri Event. They overcame an early deficit to defeat Bloom Township 42-33 in a dual meet, demonstrating superior performance in key weight classes.
According to the event details, Bloom Township initially gained an advantage when Lillian O’Brien advanced by forfeit in the 106-pound division and Joseph Mendez pinned Marian’s Tristian Cooks at 120 pounds, giving them an early 12-point lead. However, Marian Catholic quickly responded as the mid-card shifted momentum in their favor.
Chase Tankson of Marian made an immediate impact at 126 pounds by pinning Brandon Bastida of Bloom Township. Tankson’s victory was followed by dominant performances from Jeremiah Bolar at 132 pounds and Bronx Debergh at 138 pounds, who each secured fall wins over their opponents. These victories neutralized the early deficit and laid the foundation for Marian Catholic’s comeback.
The momentum continued with Jonah Greenwood’s standout performance at 150 pounds, where he pinned Jonathan Ivy of Bloom Township. Although Bloom Township briefly regained ground when Tristan Duhem earned a technical fall win (18-1) over Shelby Dockery of Marian at 157 pounds, it was insufficient to overcome Marian’s growing success.
Marian Catholic then secured pivotal wins in heavier classes. At 165 and 175 pounds, Joseph Baranski and Adrian Esparza each achieved fall victories against their opponents from Bloom Township, adding six points apiece to Marian’s score. The surge continued in the 190-pound division when Jadyn Thomas pinned D’Andre Cotton, ensuring that Marian maintained its edge.
Bloom Township managed to score in higher weight classes at 215 and 285 pounds, with Jabarie Brown pinning August Tigue of Marian at 215 pounds and George Range pinning Jonathan Dortch at 285 pounds. However, Range’s win was marred by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that resulted in a two-point deduction.
With final scores reading 42 for Marian Catholic and 33 for Bloom Township, the dual meet was ultimately decided by Marian’s effort in middle and heavy weight classes. The turnaround demonstrated the team’s resilience and ability to rally when needed most.
