Marian Catholic’s boys track team secured four spots at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A state meet following a commendable performance at the Evergreen Park Sectional on May 22.
According to the results, the Spartans were led by sectional champions Daniel Kasperan and Peyton Stoffregen. Kasperan won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:04.27 and also qualified in the 1,600 by finishing second in 4:48.96. Stoffregen captured the 800 title with a winning time of 2:03.27.
Zach Coleman completed the group of state qualifiers for Marian Catholic by placing eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.30 seconds, which met the qualifying standard.
Marian Catholic finished sixth overall with 62 points in a highly competitive field. Providence Catholic took the team title with 126 points, followed by Southland Prep with 124 points, Evergreen Park with 100 points, Joliet Catholic with 73 points, and Tinley Park with 69 points. Thirteen teams scored in total.
The Spartans’ state-bound athletes will compete in the IHSA Class 2A state championships later this month.
