Spartans show fight but fall short in Twinbill at Saint Viator

0Comments

Marian Catholic demonstrated moments of potential on Saturday, but despite significant contributions from players Ernie Ayala, Jonathan Trotter, and Matt Gonzalez, the Spartans were narrowly defeated in both games of an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader at Saint Viator. The final scores were 10-2 and 10-4.

According to the team’s performance report, Ayala contributed two RBIs in the second game, while Trotter and Gonzalez each hit doubles to energize Marian Catholic’s offense. The Spartans (10-20, 3-9) managed a rally with three runs in the fifth inning and added another in the seventh, showing resilience despite an early deficit.

In the first game, Trotter was responsible for driving in Marian’s only run. Extra-base hits came from Jazarris Mackmore and Richard Taylor, who both hit doubles. Despite collecting seven hits overall, defensive errors and timely hitting by Saint Viator’s Lions proved detrimental to Marian’s efforts.

Saint Viator took advantage early with a 4-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1. However, Marian Catholic continued to compete with determination throughout both games. The young lineup is developing chemistry and gaining experience as the season progresses.

The Spartans aim to build on their offensive strengths as they approach the final stretch of the regular season.
